The President made some less than flattering comments on the Gates/Crowley controversy. Today, or a mere minutes ago the Beer Summit – Let’s talk moment ended. Obama wanted this matter to become a teachable moment. Did this summit achieve that? I am not positive the president achieved this but he achieved lots of bad PR and will not have ended how stupid this whole drama is.

I personally do not think that the president of the free world should have used a beer summit to solve this issue. If he had wanted this to become a teachable moment, does he really think sitting and drinking beers would achieve this? This man is so obsessed with being cool that he has taken it to the level where he looks rather un-cool.
The president should have invited these men to a discussion on race relations. That’s what he wanted. This action by the president would prompt millions of Americans to have a serious sit-down talk on this issue. Instead we are forced to see the leader of the free world get down drinking beers making him look immature. Sgt Crowley commented that the discussions were about the future. I am sorry sitting around beers on the brink of getting drunk is not having that teachable moment.
So the lesson from this is, when you have disagreements with people on this topic, could drinking beers the solution. I am no thrilled about how the president acted but this was not a happy moment. The Obama we know from the campaign who articulated a new message on race, I want that Obama back. I want to see Obama articulate and lead on this issue of race relations. Obama got one thing correct; his team changed it from a childish picnic table to a white table top surrounded with chair for four.

Barack Obama is a Community Organizer and that is how he responded to this event…more like a Community Agitator. If he had responded like a president, well, he probably would not have responded since he did not have the facts. He sullied the position of the president.

@ chicagobluesgirl
That is an interesting point to note. He was unpresidential in the moment. I am also wondering if he responded that way because the media at the outset was on Gates side. So he thought, if he bashed the police and mentioned race which that was how the story was being reported on, he would be correct. But polls after showed it was distasteful.
Poor Obama

I’m a supporter (but not a fanatic) of President Obama but I agree with you here. He spoke out on a situation that wasn’t racist at all and then this whole “beer summit” seemed very unpresidential but I guess he was thinking that if he tried to diffuse the situation very casually then the country would stop attacking him…and (to my great surprise) they did shortly thereafter. But I still find the whole thing strange and embarrassing especially to real victims of racism.

How can anything be solved over 1 beer? It takes at least 2 beers to keep balanced!
The teachable moment is part of the college professors drinking with students deal. However, not much fun with 4 guys! How the heck did Biden force his way in to get 1 free beer?

@hoboduke
Biden was there to offer his sense of humor if things got tense. That’s my take. lol

Did they drink domestic or imported beer?
Personally I think Mr. Obama is in way over his head…being President isn’t a ‘learn as you go’ or ‘on the job’ training program. His inmaturity and inexperience has been evident from the beginning.

@Steve
You asked an important question because it even became an issue what they would be drinking.
How said for Obama.

You can have a serious talk with your friends over a beer, but these were not old friends, this was just silly.

Crystal,
If this is all you can see is wrong with this administration, you need to look a little harder. We are going DOWN in this country and there is not much time to wake up.
