Finding ‘the’ Mr Right or Mrs Right can be easy and it can be the hardest thing to accomplish in this world. Because we have a long list of what that person ought to be. S/he should have a sense of humor, willing to travel, handsome, educated, rich, filthy rich, tall, bald headed, hairy, should have model potential, great speaker, high IQ, ambitious, a movie fan, great at sex, a Christian, a Muslim, likes nature. Did I cover it all? No, cause right now you may be adding to that list. The fact is that we have a long list of what our ideal spouse should be but that person does not exist. And no matter how good your spouse or soul mate is, there are things you wish they were interested in or good at. We burden ourselves and especially women burden themselves with a checklist of what their ideal mate should be. Reality check: that person may not exist – in your reach.
I just finished watching a new ABC family movie called Beauty and the Briefcase starring Hillary Duff, Matt Dallas, Jaime Pressly, Chris Carmack and Michael McMillan. It is about Lane (Hillary Duff) who is an aspiring fashion writer who was recently published in Her Style magazine. From that experience she got a gig at Cosmopolitan magazine to write a lead article about finding love in the business world. She is a single young woman who wants to find love and desperately so. She has an idea of what the article should be about and the editor wants her to find a job in the business world with the aim of finding the right guy. Why business? Because it is dominated with abundance of potential men. Great story, we’ve seen it before. Come on, Avatar is the only original movie we have seen for a long time. Is there any plot we haven’t seen.
The movie is receiving mediocre reviews and while it is not a stellar film if you are interested in romantic comedies – this is for you. Since I fall in that category, I loved it. The story is genuinely real. Here you have a young lady wanting to find love but she has an everlasting checklist. It is not long but she has ten things she wants in a guy. Fast forward, she gets the job at a top investment company in New York and she has a field day. Not only is she stressed with work but she has to balance her time to date as many guys as possible. Of course she is finding love but business is also on the line, she has an article to write to submit to the Editor.
I liked Lane’s image in the movie. She is dating a lot of guys but she isn’t a slut about it. She leads a mature character and it makes her more real but also it pulls you in and it makes you want to see her do well. The character is more concerned with the personality of the gentlemen who ask her on dates. It is an ABC Family movie so that could have been predictable. The movie Beauty and the Briefcase you could say is the 2010 version of Sex and the City for today’s youth. Expect high fashion, friends who want to find Mr Right as well. The movie is all about a fantasy.
I would watch the movie again. The ending was a bit expected but with some twists. Overall, a good family sit down kinda movie. Some laughs and a great message. Should you have a checklist after seeing this film? Having one is good, you should have some standards of who you are searching for. But, cut the fluff from the list, the cheesy attributes are not really important. Finding someone who will share your moments and show you love is of high priority.
