Day 7: State of Emergency in Kingston, Jamaica

Hello,
THIS POST IS GRAPHIC. PLEASE DO NOT BLAME ME BUT I WANT TO SHARE THE REAL SCENES FROM JAMAICA.
It is Day 7 of the state of emergency. I will be going on the road today, hopefully I won’t be in any cross fire. I doubt it as the police force has brought most areas in Kingston back to normal. I would not have ventured in the hot spots of Kingston anyway – I am not that crazy.
The police and the army is taking the war to the gangs in Jamaica. They have moved into Spanish Town, St Catherine warning gang leaders and members to turn themselves in. Some of them have turned themselves in which has caught many Jamaicans by surprise. Jamaica is a country where people who perpetrate violence walk freely. Seeing them turn themselves over to the security force is relieving. If you have followed this blog over the past week you would have observed an interview by former Prime Minister Edward Seaga. There has been backlash against his interview from members of the ruling Jamaica Labor Party. A vocal member accuse him of being an ‘old, bitter man’, saying he should leave the party alone. I am disappointed that Edward Seaga came forward in the way he did. I will agree Bruce Golding (current PM) did some things wrong but for Seaga to be casting blame at the feet of Golding with a problem he created for 43 years he served in public life brings more questions than answers. In the interview he mentioned that Tivoli was a model community in that he wanted that structure to be replicated all across Jamaica. The ‘Seaga mentality’ is history and has been bad for Jamaica. There is no way you can allow gangs to take root and do nothing about it and for many years he kept quiet when he had the powers to take action.
Where is Christopher Coke?
That is still an unanswered question today. In a press briefing by the Jamaica Constabulary Force the Commissioner was recorded saying that there is intelligence that Coke is still in Jamaica. I have no doubt that he is still here but he’s on the run. The truth is the US wants him alive and the Jamaican police wants him dead. I have to think that’s the theory because of how the police force has treated other Jamaicans in the past. In recent days they killed Keith Clarke in open view of his wife and child and he was not affiliated to Coke in any way. It is believed in Jamaica the police force has a shoot and kill mentality with the intention of asking questions after which is too late. It has been reported in the US media that the US officials have been in touch with Coke. If they really want Coke alive why hasn’t he turned himself in to them? Coke is running from the local police who would take his life in a heartbeat.
These photos were taken at the National Area where over 500 Tivoli Gardens residents (all males) were detained. Some are now being released.
Additional photos from a Jamaican on Twitter. THIS IS GRAPHIC.
The images you will see uploaded to Twitter.com are graphic. There are widespread reports that civilians that were killed in the cross fire between gang members and the security forces are being buried in unmarked graves at a cemetery in Kingston. These photos taken by normal Jamaicans tell the horrible tale. For days the police force refuted these claims – now they are proven to be true. This is just horrible and someone should be held accountable for this. There is no way that in 2010 any human being should be treated like this.
The Nightmare Continues
Yesterday the police force released that they want Justin O’gilvie a business partner of Coke to turn himself in. Who is this Justin O’gilvie? Justin O’gilvie forms part of the gang and also Coke’s businesses. Not only is Justin O’gilvie a member of a criminal enterprise but he also got GOVERNMENT contracts from the ruling Jamaica Labor Party. The photo below shows Justin O’gilvie signing a contract with a present Jamaican Government Minister beside him. I have no doubt that this company is in some way affiliated to Coke. And it goes back to the ABC report that lists Golding as a criminal affiliate of Coke.
Check out the Government website.
All of this is one big mess that the Jamaican government will have to face head on. This outright corruption does not only exist in the ruling government but the previous administration for 18 years has corruption all over it. Check out the image below. It shows that his American Visa was revoked by the US Consular in Kingston, Jamaica. Image was taken from this link.
BREAKING NEWS – Kingston is under a curfew.

Corve:
Stay away from the streets if you can…I don’t know if you still have to go to work or if people are afraid to venture into public but keep yourself at a distance.
And let us know how you are doing

Corve, thanks for keeping us all uptodate with the terrible events in your country. I just hope that the security forces respect religious tolerance and don’t do bad things to people worshipping.

Thanks once again Corve for keeping us informed. I’d prefer to read your views on the situation than the medias, so much more refreshing and “real”. Well Done and please keep safe.
Can’t wait until you get back to blogging out your fav restaurants and food.

I am following this and have you in mind. As long as we hear from you we all know you are ok. Don’t even hesitate to blog because that is what is keeping the lines of communication open.
I wonder if there is something any of us could do up here?
saludos,

I forgot to congratulate you on your 200th post! I know that, because of what’s still going on over there, it must be bittersweet for you. However, know that your courage and conviction in disseminating the truth about what is really going on is its own reward indeed and is helping expose the the rampant corruption that is so prevalent in many of our societies all around the world. This is one of the most relevant and well-written blogs I’ve read and I know it will only get bigger and better from here on out. Congratulations and keep up the extraordinary work.
