105 Twitter followers of Jamaica Pegasus witnessed the first Tweetup in Jamaica. For all those present it was hands up ‘#epic’ amazing, ‘re-tweet’ entertaining and worth the talk of the town. The event, held on the 17th floor of the hotel provided a panoramic view of Kingston for the attendees. One would think that only Generations X and Y would have been there; ironically boomers stepped out and enjoyed the evening as well. Social media is the newest craze worldwide. Not only individuals are tweeting, blogging and posting updates on Facebook  but companies are seeing the tremendous prospects that social media can provide for their brands. This media allows companies to communicate directly to its audience filling the gap advertising creates. Jamaica Pegasus, one of Jamaica’s best users of Social Media must be commended for taking the initiative in producing and hosting an event like this. Surely this will become the benchmark for others to follow.

I am very particular in regards to the persons I follow on Twitter; mainly to eliminate the indecency and ignorance of others. The persons I follow are rather interesting and I would say good to know. Imagine walking into a room and meeting the people you find interesting (the ones you follow) for the first time, the ones you’ve been conversing with for months. It can be awkward but it was fun for the most part. I have followed most of the people I met at the Tweetup so far and I can’t wait to read and interact with them.

The evening was very entertaining. I sat for a brief moment with Marcia Forbes, energetic personality. In one of our conversations she said “I knew he would have been here.” She’s talking about Tanto Blacks. He was a contestant in the recently concluded Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall. He did not win the competition but viewers will always remember his vibrant, full of life energy on the stage and that he delivered at the Tweet Up event.

Out of nowhere appears the man known for slangs like “twitter” and “bluetooth” -which I might add was very fitting for the evening. In an instant those who were busy waiting for their tweets to appear on the Twitter Fountain screen and those chatting ran to the stage to catch the star perform. In between his songs he expressed his gratitude to the audience for making his dream come alive, some of whom may have voted for him in the competition. Later that evening a young lady expressed that she didn’t know of Tanto Blacks. I told her that meant she doesn’t watch enough of local television.

The highlight of the evening was the grand draw of two tickets to London courtesy of British Airways. This could have been the only reason to attend the Tweetup! At the end of the evening one of the winners celebrating was  Gordon Swaby. I am so happy he won the trip because he is a close friend of the Jamaica Pegasus

The Tweetup did not only serve as an evening to meet other Twitter users but we were introduced to Calico Jack – a fruity alcoholic beverage -which was good. I found myself going back for more and more…..and more. You get the idea – you get a little tipsy after that. :)

I must extend heartfelt CONGRATULATIONS to Jamaica Pegasus, Ms. Simpson and her team for staging this event. We like new trends and I am sure other groups will attempt to stage events like this. In our eyes everything was perfect. I left minutes after 10 PM and persons were still there enjoying the music and the food. I have never heard the Captain Colin Hinds play live and he did not disappoint me at all. He kept the vibe going and he played for everybody and that could be the biggest take away from his spinning. The DJ was going hard in other words good.

Someone asked me halfway through the evening how I would rate the event. At around 8 PM I said TEN but let’s give them a NINE because it was still early. The event deserves TEN Stars. It is now Saturday in the afternoon and I am still reminiscing about the event; I’m still seeing tweets about it and people are sorry that they missed it. The food was good; I saw the cheesecakes late but I had my fair share.

Don’t take my word for it! Read additional blogs on Jamaica Pegasus’ Tweetup. See what they have to say!

People are skeptical because they cannot fathom how Jamaica Pegasus could benefit from such an event. Really? I mean for more than three days now Twitter users have been tweeting about @JamaicaPegasus non-stop- talk about advertising. To this end, they have received a lot more Jamaican followers. What is interesting is that the followers may not book a room for a weekend but it builds tremendous brand loyalty for the hotel. If you can make 100 people special for a night, allowing them to have a wonderful time among other things, then, when they have the option between your place and another hotel/restaurant that have not made them feel special -where do you think they are going to go? Right back to Jamaica Pegasus. People shop where they feel comfortable, special and assured the service will be impeccable.
