Fashionable Dulce de Leche

If Dulce de Leche was any sweeter, we would all be addicted to it. I had the privilege of attending this exclusive fashion show at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel. The fashion show was dubbed as an all star fashion event with Calvin Klein model Andrew Stetson among others. Although the models on the runway delivered I did not see or hear any mention of international model Andrew Stetson. The top model of the evening was Sigail Currie who stood out from the other models with her striking long legs and her ‘Rihanna’ hair style.

The show was billed to begin at 7pm but due to the late arrival of the attendees the show was pushed back. Way back – the show started moments before 9pm. The cocktail segment of the evening was fun as the patrons mingled with others. I got to meet a few people and chit chatted with a few. Lots of celebs were on hand for the fashion show. This included Tami Chin, Tessanne Chin, LA Lewis, Kingsley Cooper of Pulse, Novia McDonald-Whyte of the Jamaica Observer etc.

It was great to meet Novia McDonald-Whyte. She was fun to speak with. She’s one Jamaican that I’ve always wanted to meet and congratulate for her projects. There are people who can be real bitches when they have reached certain positions and she seemed humble enough. I credited Novia McDonald-Whyte by teasing her as Jamaica’s Anna Wintour because of her influence on fashion and entertainment in Jamaica to which she replied “I’ve heard I’m worse” in her British accent. We had a good time laughing and talking about fashion in the Caribbean. She assisted this gentleman with his outfit which was cool of her. After she opened the top bottom of the gentleman’s shirt I said to her “you wanted more skin” to which she replied “definitely!”

There’s no fashion show without entertainment and a New York performer was flown in to provide that. Jaiden delivered great performances. His first song which can be found below was well received. He serenaded Anushka Walton with his second performance which I’m positive made some ladies a bit jealous. For some this fashion show might have lacked some Jamaican influence but what it was, it was good. I would love to see more shows like this in Kingston and why not host it at the Jamaica Pegasus. The ballroom was beautifully transformed to host this event. The runway and lighting was good-a part from two lights above that blared right at the photographers section.

Three of the four guys that walked the runway

The patrons reacted as the models ripped the runway. I know some are still asking how this model walked the runway.

How did this guy make the cut?

I agree with Eduardo…I like to see diverse models who aren’t all very thin. I also like fuller models such as Crystal Renn, Anansa Johnson, etc. Awesome pics! It looks like a great and fashionable time was had :)

I like diverse models on the runway but they should be slim. I do not like to see plus size models on the runway. Not a good example for anyone.

    And that’s debatable.

And ultra skinny models are a good example? I have to (respectfully!) disagree with you.  I used to attend a dance/modeling school when I was younger (I attended the dance studio portion not the modeling) but I had friends who went on to model and I can’t tell you how many of them developed eating disorders just like many many popular models in the industry. On the flip side, I do realize that there are some people who are naturally tall and thin but the majority of models eventually do have eating issues (and drug and smoking issues as a result) and to me, that’s what’s really the horrible example.

Both runway and commercial models should be diverse as people are in my opinion. All colors and all sizes. Some people don’t realize that not all so-called ‘plus size’ people have bad eating habits/exercise habits. I know women who are over a US dress size 6 who are very fit and healthy who exercise every day and eat healthy (one friend of mine has been a vegetarian for years in fact) who just are not built to be super skinny.

The biggest supermodel of all time, Cindy Crawford, was in fact a US dress size 8 yet she would be considered “plus size” in today’s backwards fashion world. Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor were even bigger and yet both a.) were and still are considered the most beautiful women in the world, and b.) greatly impacted the fashion world more than any other celebrities since. A great designer should be able to design for a variety of body types. A great fashion editor should see beauty in all people not just one race and one body aesthetic. Very sad and baffling to me how backwards the so-called ”fashion forward” industry still is :(
