For a month we have been captivated by the actions out of the African Continent. South Africa is the first country in that region to host the “greatest show on Earth”. At the beginning of the World Cup many football fans cheered on for the popular teams; a few underdogs and not to be outdone the African teams. Today, in a highly contested match that ran in extra time Netherlands and Spain played a fantastic match. The game had a plethora of royalty, yellow cards and fouls but the players settled down to play the beautiful game. Trading shots and the headed balls that went too high, millions across the world were glued to their screens to watch this historic match. Twitter was a buzz with #worldcup tweets as people shared in the fun. At this stage anything to distract us from our everyday reality (BP oil spill, wrecked economies) is needed.

The closing ceremony was beautiful to watch. I thought the Africans used the same technology used at the China Beijing Olympics. The presentation was modern and I liked the Shakira’s World Cup song Waka Waka.

Corve, always a class act! South Africa did an awesome job representing Africa for this World Cup Extravaganza. Beautiful venues, even more gorgeous people, Vuvzelas, and a safe place for the world to be seen at its best.
Spain deserved the win and they were the best team. I’m disappointed that the Dutch didn’t execute correctly. They were supposed to foul and disrupt in the 1st half, but not to the point of getting yellow cards every time…then in the second half, they were supposed to express themselves on the wings against Cap Villa & Serg Ramos. They didn’t get it done and Spain imposed their will once again.

I’m not, nor have I ever been a fan of soccer, but I did watch the finals, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Congratulations to all the teams, and especially Spain on their great win.
